CAS is a professional counseling service that provides outpatient mental health therapy and life skills coaching counseling to individuals who are seeking to take back control of their life. The therapeutic approach reflects the philosophy of the psychologist Carl Rogers who believed that all people have an innate tendency towards mental health, and seek to fulfill their potential. This is a humanistic concept that encourages people in emotional distress to believe that there is a way to heal their emotional pain and return to full mental health. The therapeutic approach at CAS is therefore based on mutual honesty, trust, and non-judgmental acceptance of the client by the therapist.
The types of therapy issues dealt with include mood disorders, anxiety related disorders, and substance-related and addictive disorders. This may involve individual therapy sessions, family counseling, and psychiatric involvement for possible medication management. All therapy is a collaborative effort between the client and therapist to identify client goals, and the treatment plan that is developed to achieve these goals. Therapeutic approaches will be chosen based on the client’s needs, and will be modified based on client progress. The use of outpatient therapy for diagnosed disorders is determined based on the needs of the client at the time of assessment, and may result in a referral to specialized therapy providers.
The area of life coaching is the other area of CAS counseling services provided. This involves a process of assisting the client to recognize how their current beliefs, emotions, and behaviors are affecting their identified life goals. This is a strength based approach that uses the client’s existing skills and previous successes in life, so as to construct positive new beliefs leading to feelings of renewed empowerment and the ability to move forward.
The services provided at CAS are done by a highly experienced and licensed therapist with 15 years experience in the areas of both mental health substance and substance abuse counseling. Life coaching, consistent goal achievement, and professional career development skills, are also drawn from having been a successful corporate executive, business owner, and mountain climber.
